Oahu Hawaii a family vacation destination for all ages

Every time I visit Oahu, which is one of my favorite Hawaiian islands because of all of the activity, I find something new and exciting to do. In September, I had the good fortune to join one the Oahu Visitors Bureau’s “theme fams”. The focus for this particular tour was the “Multi-Generational Family”.

Of course when you have families of several generations vacationing together there will be some discussions on “what to do”! Well, I have some great suggestions that should please everyone, whether they want to participate, or maybe be the family photographer.

First Stop: Wild Side Specialty Tours, where you are not just another face in the crowd of 50 or 100 other passengers. You are a guest, and one of only 10-15, maximum of 20. Each crew members takes a special interest in each guest giving special instructions for snorkeling, or photographing, directions for the best view. The dolphins, whales and turtles you encounter on the Wild Side Specialty Tours are not the animals you see at a “swim with dolphins” attraction. These animals live free and in the wild. They also have a mind of their own! However, the Wild Side Crew members seem to read minds and are quick to position the catamaran for the best views and easiest access to swim with the dolphins.

Next we visited a working farm, which has been producing organic fruits and vegetables since 1974. The produce was intended to supplement the diets of the homeless and “down and outs” in Waikiki and other areas on the Island. While that is a still a focus, Kahumana Organic Farm also sells produce to high-end health food restaurants! Taking a tour, and eating at the little café, will give everyone in your family a new perspective on farming and keeping everything free of pesticides, and other chemical additives. And the café food is absolutely delicious! Try the Chicken Quesada’s with avocado! Delish!

Kuoloa Ranch on the Windward side of the island is a wonderful day trip for the whole family.  There are so many activities, I’m not sure you can get them all in! ATV’s, Horseback Riding, Jungle tours, Movie site tours, petting zoo, Cultural activities such as Hula Dancing and talk story! Visiting ancient fishing bowls are also quite fascinating. Also located just off the mainland of Kuoloa Ranch is “Secret Island”. Great spot for some sunbathing, reading and relaxing!

Hanauma Bay is still a favorite snorkeling location for visitors to Oahu. It’s a short drive from Honolulu, with lots of parking. Because Hanauma Bay is a Nature Reserve, not a park, there are some requests made by the staff. Over the past decade, the City and County of Honolulu prepared a plan to restore Hanauma to a healthy state by reducing the number visitors and establishing an education program. The Marine Education Center also requires that all guests view a short video which explains how we can all help to keep Hanauma and other living reef environments healthy. A tram transports guest down to the water, where there is a concession stand renting snorkeling gear. (you can of course bring your own, too) There isn’t a lot of shade, so be prepared with sunscreen. The gentle waves are perfect for the first time snorkeler and still fun for the seasoned underwater explorer.

Waikiki Beach is perfect for the “Big Kahuana” wannabe. Surfing lessons and stand-up paddle board lessons are available all along the beach. If you would rather not have to work too hard, but still enjoy the surf, how about an Outrigger Canoe? In the evening, take the family on a sunset dinner cruise, with entertainment, drinks, dinner, and an amazing sunset!

A rather new attraction outside Honolulu is a water park, Wet and Wild. It is the only water park in Hawaii and is the #1 Family Attraction on the island! Of course, water slides are the big attraction, but my favorite, the lazy river is a great choice for those who wish to just enjoy the water and the sunshine without the adrenaline rush!

Nothing could be more fun that touring Oahu by air in a seaplane! You will have a wonderful view of the island and all the tropical scenery, even whales in season. Island Seaplane Service, which has 45 years of experience in water flying (in Alaska, Canada, the Arctic and the Caribbean), you will love the thrill of taking off and landing on the protected waters of Keehi Lagoon!

Hiking is another activity that families enjoy together. Diamond Head is a very popular hiking and exploring excursion, but there are others that are less widely known, but are very beautiful. Mapaku’u Beach is a great place to have a little lunch and then set off on a hike to the Mapaku’u Light House. This is a gentle uphill trek, and well worth it for the views of Manana Island (formerly called Rabbit Island), and Koahikaipu Island….get your cameras out!

There are just so many things for families to enjoy on Oahu!! As I said, each and every time I visit, I find something else that I didn’t know existed!  I would love to help you enjoy Oahu, too, and the other islands of Hawaii, so please email sandi@totemtravel.com or give me a quick call, and we can get started on your visit to Paradise!

What’s new at couples only all inclusive Sandals Resorts?

Earlier this month, all 3 Sandals Specialists at Totem Travel attended an annual training workshop because no matter how many times we’ve been to Sandals Resorts (and we go every year) we always learn something new! That’s because Sandals is constantly upgrading the resorts, renovating rooms and adding fresh, innovative ideas to make their signature couples only all inclusive resort experience the best in the business! So what’s new and exciting at Sandals this year?

  • The top of that list would have to be the new Sandals Resort on the island of Grenada. Sandals La Source opens at the end of the year and will have 231 rooms within 3 villages: Italian, Pink Gin and Balinese, with 75 butler suites including Millionaire suites, Rondovals, and Skypool suites (photo above). The newest Sandals Resort will have nine Restaurants, 3 pools, state of the art fitness center and a Red Lane spa to create the most spectacular Sandals Resort yet!
  • It’s hard to improve on Sandals Emerald Bay but Sandals has found a way to do it by adding a two-mile jogging trail around the Greg Norman designed championship golf course with 360 degree views of the Caribbean.
  • Sandals Grande St. Lucian is uniquely situated on a peninsula, which affords guests the best of 2 worlds: views of the Caribbean Sea and views of the Atlantic Ocean. This year Sandals Grande St. Lucian has added a brand new Italian restaurant, “Toscanini’s” with indoor and outdoor seating.
  • All Sandals Resorts in Jamaica now have room service and free WiFi in concierge and butler room categories plus free phone calls with Sandals new app for IPhone and Android cell phones!
  • Sandals Grande Riviera added a beach club, fire pits and more restaurants last year and this year the villa section was converted to 100%  butler service. Also hot off the press, the always popular and downright sexy Romeo and Juliet Sanctuaries with private pool were completely redone with waterfall feature over your own private pool, heated outdoor Jacuzzi perfect for skinny dipping, enclosed courtyard with outdoor shower and over the top bathroom. It is spectacular and we stayed in the suite just days after completion so check back for Linda’s post!
  • Sandals Royal Caribbean added outdoor massage cabanas and a Caribbean style jerk shack on Sandals private island plus fire pits along the beach. And planned later this year is our favorite Cafe de Paris with espresso drinks and smoothies, pastries, crepes, ice cream and decadent chocolate treats. All included…. yum!!

In addition to enhancements at the resorts, the wedding department has made some additions too. Did you know that Sandals Beautiful Beginnings Weddings are free to couples booking just 6 nights in any room category? Prefer to have different flowers? Or a different cake style? No problem…..Sandals has listened and offers a $500 credit to customize your perfect wedding!  And for a select time, Sandals is also extending a $500 Bonus Credit which can be used for room upgrades, off-resort excursions, spa services, etc.!

If you have dreamed of renewing your vows but didn’t quite know what to do….Sandals has the solution. The new ReTie the Knot program, with a dedicated staff, will arrange everything for you. The special ReTie the Knot package, at $300, includes flowers, cake, music, dinner with white glove service, breakfast in bed, and more! You will truly feel like this is your wedding day!

As a top Sandals Travel Agency we are asked every day which is your favorite or which is the best Sandals Resort and our answer is constantly changing. Every year Sandals updates the resort rooms and suites, adds restaurants, and looks for ways to enhance the guest experience. So when you’re ready to enjoy the best adult only all inclusive resort in the Caribbean check out the latest deals and specials and be prepared to be pampered! The Sandals Specialists at Totem Travel are available to answer all your questions so call, email or book on-line. We’re here to help!

Beaches Negril Resort and Spa, All Inclusive Family Vacation Resort

Click here for more photos of Beaches Negril

Are you looking for the perfect family vacation resort, where everyone has fun?  Who isn’t, right?

Beaches Negril is a wonderful family resort, with a pristine, white sand beach, loads of water sports activities, 8 dining options, water slides and X-Box!

Beaches Negril is on the famous 7 mile beach in Negril, Jamaica, just an hour from the airport.  Having such a superb beach means great swimming, sunbathing, and lots more:  water skiing and tubing, snorkeling, SCUBA, wind surfing, Hobie Cats for sailing, kayaks, and water trikes. Any member of the water sports staff will be happy to help you become an expert at wind surfing or sailing.  They love their jobs!!  They get to play in the water all day, and still get paid for it!!

The snorkel boat departs several times a day transporting guests to different sights for an ideal experience.  If SCUBA is one of your lifelong dreams, take advantage of the “resort course”  offered at the resort, for a minimal fee.  Certifying with this course will give you the opportunity to dive at any Beaches or Sandals Resort a period of 1 year.  If you are already certified, you are in for a treat:  SCUBA, including gear, is included, and the dive boat will take divers out once or twice a day!

A kids diving program, to learn diving skills is available for kids age 8 and older.

The PADI Bubblemaker Program introduces children to the thrill of breathing underwater.  This program introduces SCUBA in a pool setting through games and activities.  There is an additional cost for this program.

The PADI Seal Program affords children the opportunity to discover a world of underwater fun and adventure built around action-packed Aqua Missions!  There is an additional cost for this program, as well.

Pirates Island Water Theme Park, with 4 water slides and, my favorite, a lazy river!  These activities are not just for kids.  Believe me; adults have just as much fun!

The Kids’ Camp, which is open from 9am to 9pm every day, features a wide variety of activities in a safe environment.  The Kids’ Camp is supervised by trained nannies, and is available for kid’s age 0-14!  Children are placed in age groups, so that they will be participating in appropriate activities.  Private Nanny sitting is also available, for an hourly rate.

For the older kids, Xbox 360 Game Garage is a big hit….no quarters required, and all the latest games are available!  The Trench Town Teen Center is a supervised area of Teens only, complete with foosball, basketball machines, and bean bags!  Liquid at Beaches Nightclub offers teens/tweens, a cool place to visit, with “no parents allowed” from 9pm-11pm!

With the kids being kept busy with all of the resort activities, Mom and Dad are free to enjoy the beach themselves, for a sail on a Hobie Cat, have drinks around the pool, or have a quiet lunch at one of the many restaurants.

Evening entertainment includes family activities such as dance lessons, karaoke, and family shows.  Adults only will enjoy the Seville Piano Bar.

Accommodations at Beaches Negril range from the Deluxe rooms, with 2 double beds or a king bed, to the 2 and 3 bedroom suites, with Butler Service!!  An in room refrigerator is included in each room, and is stocked with sodas, water and juice…..and restocked daily!

Beaches Negril is a very popular place for Destination Weddings.

Like Sandals, Beaches offers free weddings!  For those couples who want to invite their nieces and nephews, and friends with children, to share their special day, Beaches is a great choice.  If the bride and groom want to escape for a few days after the wedding, that’s easy too!  Sandals Negril is just down the beach a mile or so!!

If Beaches Negril or one of the other Beaches Resorts, Beaches Ocho Rios, and Beaches Turks and Caicos, sounds like the perfect destination for your family vacation, please contact Totem Travel, or feel free to book on line!

Totem Travel is a Preferred Sandals and Beaches Specialist Agency, with 3 Sandals and Beaches Certified Specialists.  We have visited all of the resorts, and would love to help you choose the best location for your vacation!

Sandals Royal Caribbean……British Charm, with a Jamaican Flavor!

DINE ALFRESCO AT THE LE JARDINIER
I recently had the pleasure of a visit to Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay, Jamaica. What a wonderful experience! The resort is beautiful.

Sandals Royal Caribbean is the only Sandals Resort in Jamaica to boast a private, off-shore island. It is about a 5 minute boat ride, provided by Sandals, of course. The Island is perfect for a little quiet time; away from the rest of the resort…the beach is very nice with beach beds, lounge chairs and umbrellas. There is a bar available, just a few steps from the beach, so you won’t get thirsty! At night, the Dragon Boat will transport you to the Royal Thai Restaurant. Ala Carte dining under the stars! The food is great, too! If you get there a little early for your reservation or want to stay a little longer, the waiting area is complete with lounge chairs and fire pits! Very romantic!

Sandals Royal Caribbean is one of only 3 Sandals Resorts with swim-up suites! Sandals Negril and Sandals Grande St. Lucian also include swim-up suites. If you dream of walking off your patio right into the water, the Crystal Lagoon Suites are for you! Not only do you have the pleasure of accessing the pool right from your suite, you will also be pampered with Butler Service!

If you prefer the Caribbean Sea to the pool, you will love the Royal Water’s Edge suites. These wonderfully situated suites are on the water’s edge, with an oversized patio or balcony. And you will have all the pampering you need with Butler Service!!

Of course, there are lots of options if you prefer to forgo the Butler Service! Many of the Concierge level and Standard level rooms have beautiful beach and ocean views. But remember this is Jamaica, and the garden views are magnificent! And you have the added perk of the sweet fragrances of the flowers.

Because Sandals Royal Caribbean has a British Theme, the resort hosts an authentic British-style tea, every afternoon. The Cricketer’s Pub also gives you a taste of Britain with Shepard’s pie, fish and chips, and bangers and mash!

In all, Sandals Royal Caribbean has 8 different dining options, from pizza to French cuisine, from Jamaican Jerk chicken to hamburgers and hot dogs. In addition to the 8 restaurants at Sandals Royal Caribbean, you will have access to 11 more dining options at Sandals Montego Bay

and Sandals Carlyle Inn.  Transportation between the 3 resorts is complimentary! Since all meals and beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) are included at Sandals, suffice to say: you will not go hungry or have a chance to become thirsty!

Entertainment is also included at Sandals Resorts, and Sandals Royal Caribbean has some great events lined up! From an “All White Fantasy Party”, to a “Show your Stuff Talent Show” (including guests and staff); to a Beach Party…fun is the name of the game. Then there’s the Reggae Fest, and the Chocolate buffet, and the Island Romance Night! Wine and Cheese parties!

Water sports are also included at Sandals Resorts. These include Hobie Cats, Standing Paddle Boards, Glass Bottom Boats, windsurfing, kayaking! Snorkeling enthusiasts will love the snorkeling opportunities. Each day, usually 2 or 3 times a day, guests are taken by boat to several different snorkel sites. Your equipment is included, too! If you are a certified SCUBA diver…you are really going to love this….the diving is included too. As with the snorkeling you will be transported to different sites each day, so you can explore all that the Jamaica underwater has to offer. Again, equipment is included. If you are not certified, a Discover Scuba Diving course for beginners is available, as well, at an addition cost.

As I indicated above, Sandals Royal Caribbean guests have full access to the other two Sandals Resorts in Montego Bay: Sandals Montego Bay and Sandals Carlyle Inn. But there is so much to do at Sandals Royal Caribbean….who would want to leave?

If this sounds like your perfect honeymoon, anniversary, or couples getaway, destination, please contact Totem Travel. We have 3 Certified Sandals Specialists, Royal Chairman’s Club Members, on staff. We have been to all of the resorts, and have stayed at most of them! We are happy to help you narrow down your room options, based on your wish list!

Found!! Beautiful beach hotel on the Big Island of Hawaii….. Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on Kauna’oa Beach

Every beach deserves a great hotel”!

This was spoken by Laurance Rockefeller who built the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. Not only does it deserve a great hotel, but also a spectacular golf course, and extraordinary dining. And that is exactly what he created…..the landmark of luxury on the Kohala Coast of Hawaii.

A few years ago, his dream resort was damaged quite extensively, thanks to an earthquake. But when you have the most beautiful beach on the island, it deserves a great hotel! $150 million dollars later, the Mauna Kea is again the luxurious Hawaiian resort it was meant to be. And NO RESORT FEES!!!

Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is quite small in comparison to many of the “brand name” hotels on the island. However, being small only adds to the charm of this deluxe oceanfront resort. There are 258 luxury guest rooms and suites, with large flat screen TVs, crisp white linens, with accented with bold “sunset” colors. Each room has an IPOD dock with clock radios, mini refrigerators with bottle water replenished daily, and coffee makers with Kona coffee! Views vary from mountain view to deluxe ocean views, but each room has a wide lanai to enjoy the sea air.

Golfers particularly love the newly renovated 18 hole championship Mauna Kea Golf Course. Need a quick snack, a beer or maybe a Mai Tai? The Number 3, the new golf clubhouse restaurant is a great solution!

Keeping in shape while vacationing is sometimes a problem, but with the new 2500 square foot Fitness center and the 11 tennis courts, working of the extra calories should be a snap!

The new Mauna Kea Spa by Mandara and the enhanced beach and pool services contribute to the pampering and relaxed atmosphere we all enjoy while on vacation.

No resort is complete without food! Mauna Kea Beach Hotel not only has several restaurants, ranging in cuisine from American hamburgers and pizza at the Paviliion at Manta Ray Point, to Monettes Artisan Fish and Steak Restaurant. The Monette brothers, owners of the award-winning Flagstaff House Restaurant in Colorado, offers exquisite food and wine, at the first “modern” American steakhouse on the Big Island. Are you an oenologist, a lover of wines? The Manta and Pavilion Wine Bar will be your favorite place to eat and enjoy forty eight distinctive wines.

On Tuesdays and Fridays guests enjoy an authentic imu-roasted Kalua pig, lomi salmon and piles of pineapple and papaya. Learn to hula to the Hukilau and try a little finger-licking poi, and be amazed by the fire dancers. This is all part of the Luau at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.

Aloha is the true spirit of this resort! The beach is amazing, the service is impeccable and the sunsets are out of this world! If this sounds like your kind of vacation experience, please give me a call at 425-821-4100 or send an email at sandi@totemtravel.com. You can also book on line!

Looking for last minute Christmas Vacation Options?

Just found out that you do have some extra time and money for Christmas? Want to take the family on a memorable holiday retreat? We may have the answer for you! Although there are many options that are sold out, and have been for months, there is still availability for some nice warm destinations. Honolulu, Puerto Vallarta, Disney World, to name a few.

As you might imagine, air travel just before Christmas, and just after Christmas, is very limited. So flexibility is the key word!!

Disney World and Disneyland are a kid’s dream come true! Both resorts really know how to do the holidays. The parks are decorated elaborately and beautifully. From the grounds to the attractions and the characters, everyone is filled with the Christmas spirit. If you would like to join in the fun at Disney World, there’s still time! A 5 night package, traveling December 23th- December 28th, with airfare from Seattle, a Disney hotel, airport/resort transfers, and 5 day park hopper tickets, is less than $5300 for a family of 4! Can you imagine your children’s faces when they find out Disney World is their Christmas Vacation?

Maybe Disney World is a little further than you would like to travel over the holidays. Disneyland is another great option. A 5 night package, with park hopper tickets, a Good-Neighbor Hotel, roundtrip airfare, and roundtrip airport transfers would be about $3900, for a family of 4. If you would rather stay at the newly renovated, Disneyland Hotel, the same package would be about $4900 for a family of 4.

If a Hawaiian Christmas is what you are dreaming of, your dreams can come true! Honolulu, for 6 nights, in a Waikiki Hotel, for a family of four would run about $5400. The package would include roundtrip airfare from Seattle, December 25th-December 31st, roundtrip airport transfers, 6 night’s accommodations and breakfast each morning!!

Mexico is a wonderful destination just about any time of year, but just think what your kids would gain by enjoying another culture’s Christmas traditions. A learning experience and a vacation…..a win win situation! Traveling on December 25th – January 1st, with roundtrip airfare from Seattle to Puerto Vallarta, roundtrip airport transfers and 7 night’s accommodations would be about $5000 for your family of 4.

One of the best values for Christmas is a cruise. There are so many fun activities for everyone that no one will be bored. From Los Angeles on the Carnival Splendor, departing December 23rd, returning December 30th. Of course, the cruise would include all of your meals, entertainment, and Camp Carnival for the kids! The cost for this cruise would be about $5000 for a family of 4. This rate includes airfare.

As you can see, traveling on or near Christmas Day is the key to grabbing a last minute Christmas Vacation opportunity. You will need to act quickly…..do not hesitate. He who snoozes, loses! Don’t lose out!!

Please feel free to email me at sandi@totemtravel.com or call us at (425) 821-4100 to see what options are available to you and your family. I’m sure there are more destinations available, we will just have to search a bit. And be prepared to purchase immediately.

Beaches Ocho Rios Resort and Golf Club, a new name and a new look for the affordable all-inclusive family resort

Click here for a slideshow of Beaches Boscobel

A few years ago I enjoyed a 3 night stay at Beaches Boscobel, on the northeast coast of Jamaica. During the drive to the resort, I kept wondering where is the town of Boscobel?! Well, apparently I wasn’t the only one!! The decision was made to rename Beaches Boscobel. The new name best describes the location of the resort: Beaches Ocho Rios Resort and Golf Club. Same resort, new name!!

Back in 2005, when I stayed at the resort, it was ok, it didn’t knock my socks off! In December of 2011, I had the pleasure of visiting Beaches Ocho Rios again! What a difference a few years (and many $$$) make!!

Rooms have been completely refurbished and updated! Many of the rooms accommodate 5 people, which is a huge plus for those families with 3 children! All rooms are outfitted with top of the line plasma televisions and in-room refrigerator stocked (and re-stocked daily) with juices, water and soda. Concierge level rooms include wine, beer and liquor as well.

Kids (and adults) love the X Box Game Garage with all the video games……..and no quarters needed! It’s included!

One of the best additions to Beaches Ocho Rios is the Pirates Island Water Park! There are actually 11 water slides available for all ages, six of them for small children. For the older kids (and adults) there is a tube slide, a body slide and a speed slide! The littlest guests will love the kid’s zone and zero entry kiddie pools with a misting crab a squirting sea turtle and a splashing seahorse!

Another great addition is Liquid at Beaches, a cool place for tweens and teens to visit when the sun goes down! And the best part—no parents allowed between 10pm and 11pm!

Kids’ Kamp, for kids from 0-17 years old, is manned from 9am-9pm daily to ensure that every child who visits Beaches has a fun-filled and memorable vacation. And, since the kids are happy, mom and dad are happy too!! Children are divided into age specific groups so that they can participate in age appropriate activities. I almost forgot to mention Elmo and friends in the Sesame Street Caribbean Adventure…..lots of fun and games.

Of course, watersports are a big part of Beaches Ocho Rios. It’s all included! Kayaks, sailing, snorkeling, windsurfing, banana boats, paddle boats, aqua-trikes and a glass bottom boat are available to everyone. If you don’t know how to sail or kayak or windsurf, don’t worry. The Watersports Staff is more than happy to help you master any of the equipment.

Scuba diving is also included for those that are certified. All of your equipment is included. If you are not certified but want to learn, PADI Discover SCUBA course if offered at a minimal fee.

Land sports are also available: Basketball, shuffle board, pool, table tennis, and tennis are all included. And Golf! Sandals Golf and Country Club is a challenging 18 hole, par 71 course. A free one hour golf clinic is available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Transportation to and from the golf course, and green fees are included.

Activities are presented by the Playmakers at Beaches. They will keep everyone busy and provide entertainment in the evening. The Playmakers love to involve everyone in the fun, so be prepared to have a great time!!

There are plenty of off-resort activities, too. These do have an additional fee but if you are dying to swim with dolphins, or ride horseback through the surf, or maybe zip line, Island Routes at Beaches Ocho Rios can fix you right up!!

If Beaches Boscobel Resort and Golf Club or one of the other Beaches Resorts sound like the ideal family vacation, BFF get-a-way, family reunion, please contact one of our Certified Beaches Agents or book online.

Panama Canal Cruise from Seattle

Celebrity Cruises is offering a 17 day Panama Canal cruise departing from Seattle! At the end of the Alaska cruising season, all of the ships transition to their homeport, or add an exotic cruise to the mix. Celebrity has chosen to offer a Panama Canal cruise from Seattle to Fort Lauderdale. Since this is a repositioning cruise, there is only one cruise date, September 21st -October 8th. Ports of call include a day in San Francisco, Cabo San Lucas, and Puerto Vallarta. There are also ports of call in Costa Rica and Cartegena, Columbia.

Celebrity Cruises are known for their beautiful accommodations and great food. Accommodations range from inside cabins, to elegant Royal Suites and Penthouse Suites (with a grand piano!). Presently most cabin categories are available but once word gets out about this great itinerary, I expect availability to diminish quickly! Prices range from $1750 per person (based on double occupancy) for an inside cabin, to $2850 per person (double occupancy) for a cabin with a balcony.

Concierge Class Staterooms are available for those who wish to be pampered but would rather not go all the way with a suite. The Concierge Class staterooms offer early embarkation and debarkation, welcome Champagne, a pillow menu, 100% Egyptian cotton oversized bath towels, plush bathrobes and a veranda with lounge seating, and many other amenities. The Concierge Class Staterooms do run a bit more than the standard balcony stateroom, but you’re worth it! The cost is approximately $3025 per person (double occupancy).

Hurry to get in on this great opportunity! Please email sandi@totemtravel.com, or give me a call: 425-821-4100, or 1-800-321-7907 to book your Panama Canal cruise!

If you have been thinking of a Panama Canal cruise, this just might be the right choice for you. But if the dates are not quite right, there are many other cruises which traverse the Canal, either departing from California, ending in Florida, or just the opposite.

Honua Kai Resort and Spa, Maui’s new luxury condo property

Click here for a slideshow of Honua Kai Resort & Spa

Honua Kai Resort & Spa is just a short drive from the Whaling Village of Lahaina and a little north of Black Rock which is a favorite snorkeling beach on the Island of Maui.

Accommodations at Honua Kai range from a 500 square foot Studio unit to an impressive 2600 square foot, 3 bedroom apartment! (3 bedroom units are extremely difficult to find!!) When I visited this property, the first words that came to mind were: luxurious and deluxe! Each unit is very well-appointed with natural teak and travertine, as well as a flat screen TV, fine linens and Aveda bath products. The kitchens will make any “foodie” smile! Gourmet is the only way to describe the high-end Bosch appliances and granite counter tops. These condo suites definitely have the luxury of Maui vacation homes, and all the amenities of a full service, up-scale resort!

Currently, Honua Kai Resort & Spa has 2 dining choices, Dukes’ Beach House or the Aina Gourmet Market. Plans are in the works for more restaurant options. There are also many BBQ areas throughout the property for preparing your own fresh Mahi Mahi or grilled hamburgers & hot dogs!

An aquatic playground with pools, hot tubs, a water slide, waterfalls and fountains, will create many hours of fun for the kids. Or, just for the adults, visit the Konea or formal pool to relax, swim laps, and just chill!

A kid’s club, a fitness center and water sports (through the beach activities desk) rounds out this picture-perfect new beachfront resort.

Honua Kai will soon be a favorite of families of all ages. The resort grounds & accommodations are perfect for family reunions, destination wedding guests, honeymoons,
50th Anniversary celebrations, and BFF gatherings!
