London is Calling

One of my favorite cities is London; I was actually born there so I may be a bit partial! London is the largest of the cities in the UK and so full of things to see and do that you can go over and over and always have new experiences.

Let’s start with the obvious like Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, The Tower of London, Big Ben, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and Tower Bridge.  From there you can visit such sites as the London Bridge, London Aquarium, the London Eye and the London Dungeons. There are monuments everywhere but don’t miss the Marble Arch or Nelsons Column in Trafalgar square.

Why not take a stroll in Hyde Park, Regent’s Park, St. James Park, Kensington Gardens or Kew Gardens. You can people watch everywhere in London but at Piccadilly Circus it’s a swirl of people, traffic and lights and non-stop action day or night. How about shopping? There’s Oxford Street, Fleet Street, Regent Street, the Strand, Harrods and the list goes on.

There are too many museums and galleries to mention, but a few are the Victoria and Albert Museum, Tate Gallery, National Gallery and the Natural History Museum. And you can’t forget cathedrals such as St. Paul’s, Westminster and Southwark Cathedral. There’s Covent Garden and the Theater district, Trocadero, the up and coming Docklands area and again the list goes on and on.

The Tube, London’s underground is one of the best I’ve been on and will get you anywhere and everywhere easily so don’t be shy about using it. So my message, make sure you have time when you’re in London, there is so much to see and if possible go again and again to see new things each time.

Jennefer is a Spain Specialist

Spain ~ paella and tapas, siestas, flamenco, bull fights, the running of the bulls, whitewashed villages, the Costa del sol and Mediterranean beaches.  Fabulous!

My first trip to Spain was in 2000 just after completing the Spain Specialist Program.  At the time I was seeing a guy that wanted to go to Spain and I didn’t know much about the country.  So I decided to take the specialist course and figured we’d travel to Spain together.

Well, the guy didn’t last, but I completed the course, went to Spain and fell in love with the country.  Spain offers everything from food to culture, history, architecture and vibrant people.

The country is truly a melting pot.  For a time, Spain was run by the Sultans and the Alhambra Palace is a great example of the Moor’s influence. Visiting the churches and cathedrals you’ll notice the Jewish influence as well as the Christian and you can’t speak of architecture without mentioning the renowned Gaudi and all he contributed.

There is also a lot of African influence, with Spain just across the Straight of Gibraltar from Morocco.  And of course who can forget that Christopher Columbus sailed from Spain to find our New World so many years ago.

Spain remains a place for every traveler who has a spirit of adventure. If you’d like to know more about travel to Spain call me at 800-321-7907 or e-mail jennefer@totemtravel.com and we’ll start planning a trip you won’t soon forget.

7 Years as a Certified Scotland Expert!

In 2001, I earned the title SCOTSmaster by completing the Scotland Destination Specialist Program and have been a certified Scotland expert ever since.

To become a SCOTSmaster, I was required to complete a comprehensive course designed by the University of Scotland in Glasgow. The coursework covered geography, history, attractions, accommodations, cuisine, transportation and unique cultural attractions within Scotland.

My final test papers were graded by the University of Glasgow and, upon completion of the course, I was invited to Scotland for a special graduation ceremony complete with bagpipes and kilts. We saw the Highland Games, enjoyed lots of great food and received a tartan in recognition of our accomplishments. What a treat!

Since completing the SCOTSmaster course I have helped many clients plan a vacation to Scotland. I love the country, the history, people, scenic beauty and all the magic that is Scotland.

I have been a travel counselor for 9 years and my passion is Europe. In fact I travel internationally at least once a year. Besides the SCOTSmaster program I have completed Destination Specialist courses for Spain, Scandinavia, Britain, Germany, Northern Europe and Southern Europe. Right now I am finishing the course for France and starting one for Italy.
