The lovely islands of Fiji are perfect for a honeymoon or destination wedding for many reasons. The weather is ideal during the summer travel months, romantic beachfront bures offer the privacy that many couples crave, and Fiji is more affordable than Tahiti because the currency is tied to the New Zealand dollar rather than the Euro.
From the U.S., all flights arrive at Nadi airport on Viti Levu. But most of my favorite vacation destinations are on the smaller, outer islands. The Mamanucas and Yasawas to the west and Taveuni to the north offer the best beaches, best snorkeling and best scuba diving in Fiji. Plus these islands are home to two of the best honeymoon resorts in Fiji – Tokoriki and Qamea!
Tokoriki is easily reached by ferry, high speed catamaran, seaplane or helicopter from Nadi. This short journey will take you over a shimmering turquoise lagoon past dozens of tiny islets and atolls and is the beginning of a truly magical vacation.
The resort is very romantic with only 29 deluxe bures and 5 sunset bures with private pool. All rooms were recently renovated and offer 2 showers (one outdoors), king size beds, air conditioning, hammocks, refrigerators and lots of privacy.
The main resort has a lovely infinity pool and you can enjoy poolside dining for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The beach is very pretty and the water is warm, clear and turquoise. Complimentary water activities include snorkeling, windsurfing, sailing and viewing from a glass bottom boat. The staff is unbelievably friendly and will know you by name within a few hours.
Tokoriki also has its own beautiful little Chapel on the hillside and, unlike Tahiti, weddings performed in Fiji are legally recgnized in the U.S. I highly recommend a stay of at least 5 nights and the special “romance package” with day trip to Honeymoon Island. You will want to go back!
Another fabulous honeymoon resort is Qamea located on Taveuni Island, a short flight north of Nadi. This resort is set on 43 acres of magnificent beach and offers spectacular snorkeling and some of the best diving in Fiji.
There are 14 lovely bures with beautiful oceanviews and romantic outdoor showers. There is a Honeymoon Villa with private outdoor Jacuzzi and a Honeymoon Suite which is to die for. It has a plunge pool, outdoor shower, hammock and a bed on the terrace. Click for slide show
The cuisine at Qamea is wonderful and you’ll find an extensive wine list, organic fruits and vegetables plus seafood caught fresh daily. All meals are included in the room rate, so feel free to enjoy and indulge!
